The System of Training of Sound Perception (STEPS)

 

The two muscles of the middle ear - that of the hammer and the stirrup - are mobilized in the processes of listening (and not for pure hearing which, it, is passive).

It is thanks to these muscles that we can select and analyze the sounds which we want to listen to (it is the aiming).

According to the language concerned, the muscles of the ear work according to the band-width of this language.

  
     

The electronic ear (STEPS) educates my ear to perceive the sounds of the target language by a true massage of this musculature. This apparatus uses high-pass filters and a system of "balancing" sound connected to a helmet allowing listening by air and bone.

Thus the acoustic conditions of the target language are reconstituted, in frequency and time lapse of control.

The STEPS obliges the subject to swing back and forth (almost "in spite of yourself") in the loop of audio-phonatory control of the target language.

The follow-up
Stress will be put on the personalization of the training course and the teaching accompaniment :

 
      - at the time of the listening sessions and follow-up tests (to listen to your feelings, to answer your questions, to give you points of reflexions to allow you to understand and assimilate).  
      - at the time of the audio-vocal sessions or when using exercises (posture, voice. etc), the trainee will be able to feel and adapt to the new posture of listening and expression.

Results :
A study in 7 European universities

 
 

A study carried out by Europe , within the framework of the Socrates program, highlighted that the Tomatis system makes it possible to improve of 50% the time of integration (capacity of comprehension and oral expression).

A teaching strategy

  
 

This strategy integrates all dimensions of a language as much on the phonetic plan as structural and communicatif.

It makes it possible to start again the mechanisms of natural training and spontanaiete as in our mother tongue:

- to impregnated by the rhythms and music of the language.

- to model ones posture of listening, to reproduce the rhythm and the intonation.

- to discover and learn the structures, the direction, the vocabulary, the synthaxe.

- to express oneself in a situation of communication in the phonological channel of the language.
